Nurturing Beautiful Rhododendrons for Your Garden

Hi, I’m Lisa, and Rhododendrons are my passion. At RhodoDirect, our West Melton nursery is open to the public, offering the chance to explore our beautiful display garden and shop a wide variety of rhododendrons and azaleas. For over 20 years, we’ve been proudly supplying gardeners across New Zealand with top-quality plants to brighten their gardens.

Spotlight | Alpine Rhododendrons

Small in size but big on impact, dwarf rhododendrons are true alpine rock stars. Discover why these tough, free-flowering beauties are perfect for small gardens, rockeries, and exposed spots — from their weed-suppressing carpets to their stunning bursts of spring colour.

Behind the Scenes

POTTING UP & PINCHING BACK

Potting up never stops at the nursery! Our cuttings are “graduating” into 2-litre pots, and careful pinching is shaping them into bushy, balanced rhodos. Summer, shade, and birdsong make it a quietly satisfying job. Discover more behind the scenes in our blog.🌸🌸

February Garden Guides

Powdery mildew is increasingly common in NZ gardens. It appears as yellow blotches on the tops of leaves, followed by fuzzy white spores underneath — and if untreated, it can spread quickly. Here in Christchurch, the combination of hot days followed by heavy rain over Christmas and into summer has created ideal conditions for powdery mildew to develop.

Hedging Rhododendrons

Thinking of planting a hedge but want something a little more exciting than the usual green wall?

This month we’re highlighting rhododendrons that do more than just look beautiful – they work hard in your garden too! Whether you’re after a lush screen to block out a view, muffle noise from the road, or divide your garden into rooms, we’ve got a fantastic selection of hardy, fast-growing varieties to choose from – perfect for creating structure and privacy, with the bonus of stunning blooms.

Dense shrubs with clusters of pale pink flowers line a paved street under tall leafy trees; a parked white car is visible in the background, evoking the welcoming scenery seen on the Rhodo Direct home page.
