Description

Rhododendron Dan Carter is an evergreen rhododendron celebrated for its very large trusses of rose-red buds that open to soft pink flowers, creating a stunning display in November. With a mature height of approximately 1.5 m, this shrub provides both evergreen structure and late-spring floral impact, making it perfect for garden borders, woodland edges, and mixed shrub plantings.
This cultivar thrives in well-drained, acidic soil with partial shade to dappled sunlight, where the glossy evergreen foliage remains attractive throughout the year. The combination of bold flower colour, large truss size, and reliable growth habit makes Dan Carter a standout choice for gardeners seeking a late-spring flowering rhododendron with strong visual impact.
Ideal for creating a show-stopping feature in your garden, Dan Carter delivers both beauty and structure. Order online from RhodoDirect today, or visit our nursery to see it in bloom and receive expert planting advice.

Size information

When you purchase a rhododendron, you will receive a well-established four-year-old plant grown in a 6L pot, with a strong root system and often developing flower buds, ready to settle in and thrive in your garden.

To help you plan for the plant’s eventual scale, the mature heights listed in the Product Information are estimated 10-year sizes from the time of planting. For more detail, please refer to our Size Guide in the FAQs.

How to plant

All our rhododendrons are grown in pots, so you can plant them anytime, though autumn is ideal for encouraging strong root growth. Find the right spot based on your chosen rhodo, improve the soil generously with organic matter, gently tease out the roots, and plant shallow at or just below the original soil level. Finally, mulch well and water thoroughly to help your plant establish.

Care information

Rhododendrons are rewarding and easy to grow once their basics are right — most issues come down to watering, drainage, or planting depth. We recommend keeping roots cool and moist (but not waterlogged), planting shallow in well-drained acidic soil, mulching annually, feeding lightly in spring, and providing morning sun or dappled shade with shelter from harsh afternoon sun and wind.

For more detailed guidance on feeding, pruning, and common issues, start with our General Care Guide, which contains all the advice you need to keep your rhododendrons thriving.
