Description

Rhododendron ‘Penjerrick’ is an attractive elepidote rhododendron hybrid valued for its pendant, campanulate blooms carried in lax trusses. The flower colour varies with different clones, ranging from ivory white and pale yellow to soft pink hues, often with nectaries coloured crimson, offering subtle seasonal interest in suitable garden positions.
This hybrid stems from the cross of Rhododendron campylocarpum × R. griffithianum, a cross originally made at Penjerrick garden in Cornwall where many beautiful forms of this hybrid were developed. The result is a plant with glossy, dark or medium green leaves and a tall, slightly open shrub form that integrates beautifully into woodland gardens or larger mixed borders.
Rhododendron ‘Penjerrick’ is best planted in acidic, well drained soil with partial shade or dappled sunlight, where its elegant flower form and glossy foliage can be admired. Its varied flower shades make it a flexible choice for planting schemes that favour both subtlety and texture.
Order Rhododendron ‘Penjerrick’ online today, or visit the RhodoDirect nursery to appreciate this refined rhododendron hybrid in person.

Size information

When you purchase a rhododendron, you will receive a well-established four-year-old plant grown in a 6L pot, with a strong root system and often developing flower buds, ready to settle in and thrive in your garden.

To help you plan for the plant’s eventual scale, the mature heights listed in the Product Information are estimated 10-year sizes from the time of planting. For more detail, please refer to our Size Guide in the FAQs.

How to plant

All our rhododendrons are grown in pots, so you can plant them anytime, though autumn is ideal for encouraging strong root growth. Find the right spot based on your chosen rhodo, improve the soil generously with organic matter, gently tease out the roots, and plant shallow at or just below the original soil level. Finally, mulch well and water thoroughly to help your plant establish.

Care information

Rhododendrons are rewarding and easy to grow once their basics are right — most issues come down to watering, drainage, or planting depth. We recommend keeping roots cool and moist (but not waterlogged), planting shallow in well-drained acidic soil, mulching annually, feeding lightly in spring, and providing morning sun or dappled shade with shelter from harsh afternoon sun and wind.

For more detailed guidance on feeding, pruning, and common issues, start with our General Care Guide, which contains all the advice you need to keep your rhododendrons thriving.
