Description

Rhododendron ‘Magnolia’ is an attractive broadleaf evergreen rhododendron valued for its showy spring blooms in white with lavender tones, creating a beautiful display that attracts bees and other pollinators. The flowers typically emerge in spring and sit above a backdrop of rich, evergreen foliage, adding both seasonal interest and year-round garden structure.
Reaching approximately 1.8 – 2 metres in height and spread at maturity, Rhododendron ‘Magnolia’ forms a substantial yet manageable shrub ideal for mixed borders, woodland gardens, foundation plantings, or as a specimen feature. Its tolerance for a range of light conditions from mostly sun to mostly shade — provided the soil is rich, well-drained and acidic — makes it versatile in many garden designs.
This cultivar also shows good resistance to common garden pests and diseases, including verticillium wilt, and performs best when planted in moist, well-drained soil with regular watering and partial shade.
Rhododendron ‘Magnolia’ is an excellent choice for gardeners seeking a reliable evergreen shrub with elegant two-tone flowers and strong garden presence.
Check availability with RhodoDirect and bring this beautiful mid-season flowering rhododendron into your landscape this season.

How to plant

All our rhododendrons are grown in pots, so you can plant them anytime, though autumn is ideal for encouraging strong root growth. Find the right spot based on your chosen rhodo, improve the soil generously with organic matter, gently tease out the roots, and plant shallow at or just below the original soil level. Finally, mulch well and water thoroughly to help your plant establish.

Care information

Rhododendrons are rewarding and easy to grow once their basics are right — most issues come down to watering, drainage, or planting depth. Follow our planting guide for a great start, prune as needed, mulch annually to keep roots cool, and feed lightly in spring for a spectacular bloom later in the year.

Keep an eye out for common issues like powdery mildew or thrip, and address them promptly. We have plenty of information on caring for your rhododendron, and if you can’t find what you need, we’re always happy to talk all things Rhodos. Find a full overview in our General Care Guide (link below).
