Description

Rhododendron ‘Glory of Bagshot’ is a classic large-flowered rhododendron prized for its elegant and timeless floral display. In November, it produces impressive rounded trusses of pure white flowers, each bloom accented with distinct red spotting in the throat, creating contrast and visual interest within the truss. The clean white colouring makes it particularly effective for brightening shaded garden areas and pairing with darker foliage plants.
This cultivar forms a substantial, upright evergreen shrub, reaching approximately 2.5 metres in height at 10 years, with a broad, well-balanced habit as it matures. The foliage is large, deep green, and leathery, providing strong year-round structure and an excellent backdrop for the spring flowering display.
‘Glory of Bagshot’ grows best in well-drained, acidic soil enriched with organic matter and benefits from consistent mulching to maintain soil moisture and root health. It shows good sun tolerance for a white-flowering rhododendron, particularly when protected from harsh afternoon sun, and is well suited to woodland gardens, larger borders, and feature planting where space allows it to develop fully. A dependable and long-lived variety, it remains a favourite for gardeners seeking impact and elegance.

How to plant

All our rhododendrons are grown in pots, so you can plant them anytime, though autumn is ideal for encouraging strong root growth. Find the right spot based on your chosen rhodo, improve the soil generously with organic matter, gently tease out the roots, and plant shallow at or just below the original soil level. Finally, mulch well and water thoroughly to help your plant establish.
