What have we been up to? What haven’t we been up to!!
While Lisa takes a very well-earned breather (her first proper break in who knows how long!), I wanted to use this opportunity to pause and reflect on everything Lisa and Steve have accomplished—not just in the last few months, but over the years since RhodoDirect found its new home in West Melton.
If you’ve followed our Behind the Scenes series, you’ll already have a sense of the scale of what’s been happening behind the hedges. But if not—it’s worth a look. Because what Lisa and Steve have taken on is no small feat.
They didn’t just move house. They took on a Rhododendron business and started a Truffle business simultaneously, all while completely reimagining the property it now sits on. From extensive landscaping, shelter planting, fencing, and irrigation… to the design and build of new growing spaces, tunnels, and a brand-new retail area—every corner of the site has been touched by their hands (and often their spades).
And they haven’t done it halfway. Lisa and Steve are the kind of people who don’t stop at “that’ll do.” They push through the mud, the weather, the setbacks, and the spreadsheets. They’re visionaries and grafters—an increasingly rare combo.
If you’ve ever built something from scratch—whether it’s a garden, a business, or both—you’ll know how heavy that mental load can be. Every decision, every dollar, every dropped tool matters. And somehow, they’ve done all this while still shipping out beautiful rhodos all over the country and growing their community of loyal customers along the way.
So while Lisa recharges (finally!), we thought we’d put together a little gallery montage to celebrate the journey so far. Scroll on below to see just a snapshot of what it takes to breathe new life into a nursery like this.
And stay tuned—because one day soon, we’ll share a walk-about video to really bring these stories and spaces to life.
