January Growing Guide

Watering Wisdom for a Thriving Garden 💧🌿

Hot, dry weather? Don’t let it get the best of your rhododendrons! Here’s how to water smart:

🕗 When to water:
Morning is best — cooler temps mean less evaporation and more absorption.
Evening works too, but water the soil only — not the leaves — to avoid fungal problems or leaf burn.

💦 How to water:
Go slow and deep. Aim for water to soak at least 15cm into the soil. Use soaker hoses, drip irrigation, or a watering wand at the base to avoid waste.

🪴 Container plants:
These dry out quickly. Check daily in summer and water in the morning.

🌲 Mulch matters:
Add 5cm of pine needles, bark, or straw (keep clear of the trunk) to retain moisture and protect roots.

🌧️ General rule:
About 2.5cm of water per week — more in hot spells. Wilted leaves? That’s your sign to water ASAP.

Water well, mulch smart, and your garden will thank you.
